Homemade Puff Pastry

Refined flour 500 grams
Salt 1 teaspoon
Sugar 1 tablespoon
Oil ½ cup
Butter 250 grams
Cold water


Mix flour, sugar and salt in a bowl. Pour oil into the bowl and mix it well. Now knead it with cold water to make the dough. Let it cool in refrigerator. Again knead it for 5 minutes, and set aside for an hour. now put butter squares in a plastic wrap and roll it with the help of rolling pin till turn into thin flap layer.

With rolling pin, roll out the corners of the square of dough to extend them into flaps. Place the butter squares on top of the dough, with the butter-square corners positioned between the flaps. Wrap the flaps over the butter square, taking care not to stretch the dough. Press the dough edges together until the butter square in entirely wrapped and all the dough edges are sealed shut.  Repeat the steps, fold each narrow edge into the center of the rectangle, then fold the dough resulting in six layers. Wrap the folded dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator at least one hour. Using your puff pastry dough as desired.

Note: to freeze the puff pastry for later use, triple wrap it I plastic, then keep it in the freezer for up to two months. Allow it to thaw in the refrigerator overnight before using it.
