Anise Flavored Pizza Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp ground anise
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, anise, sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Add the water and bring the sauce to a simmer. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Adjust seasoning to taste, and let it cool slightly before using on your pizza dough.
