Basic Garden Sauce

This Basic Garden Sauce is perfect for pizza, pasta, or any dish that needs a burst of fresh, homemade flavor! With a medley of vegetables and herbs, it’s simple to make and adds the perfect base to your favorite meals.


Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 can (29 oz) stewed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/8 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 tablespoon hot pepper sauce

Directions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 1 minute.
  2. Add the green bell pepper and sauté for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in the mushrooms and cook until tender.
  4. Add the stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, basil, oregano, bay leaf, sugar, and hot pepper sauce.
  5. Simmer the sauce for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to mix all the flavors.
  6. Remove the bay leaf before using the sauce on your pizza, pasta, or favorite dish.
