Beef Samossay

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 250g minced beef
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1-2 green chilies (finely chopped, optional)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil (for cooking)
  • 1/2 cup peas (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)

For Assembling:

  • Readymade samosa strips or wrappers (available in most grocery stores)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Beef Filling:

  1. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the minced garlic and green chilies (if using) and sauté for another minute.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the minced beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon until it browns and any moisture evaporates (about 5-7 minutes).
  5. Stir in the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are well combined.
  6. Optionally, add peas and cook for another 2-3 minutes until tender. Stir in fresh coriander leaves and lemon juice, and remove from heat. Let the filling cool.

2. Assemble the Samosas:

  1. Take a readymade samosa pastry strip and cut it into halves or thirds, depending on the size you want.
  2. Fold the strip into a cone shape by bringing one edge to the center, creating a triangle-like shape. Seal the edge with a little water.
  3. Stuff the cone with the cooled beef mixture and then fold the open edge over to seal the samosa. Press gently to secure it.
  4. Repeat the process for all the strips.

3. Fry the Samosas:

  1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the prepared samosas into the oil in batches. Don't overcrowd the pan.
  3. Fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 4-6 minutes.
  4. Remove the samosas with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Serve:

Serve the hot beef samosas with mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or ketchup.
