Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until smooth.
  6. In a small bowl, combine cocoa powder and hot water to form a thick paste.
  7. Divide the batter evenly into two portions. Mix the cocoa paste into one half of the batter.
  8. Spoon both batters alternately into the prepared pan. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together to create a marble effect.
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
