Chicken Tikka Masala

Ingredients

For the Tikka:
  • Chicken (boneless, cubed): 500g
  • Yogurt: 1/2 cup
  • Red chili powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin powder: 1 teaspoon
  • All-spice powder (garam masala): 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice: 3 tablespoons
  • Salt: to taste
  • Butter or oil: as needed
For the Gravy:
  • Tomatoes (chopped): 2 medium
  • Onion (chopped): 1 medium
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk: 1/2 cup
  • Sugar: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: to taste
  • Oil: 2 tablespoons

Directions

Preparing the Tikka:
  1. In a bowl, mix yogurt, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste, cumin powder, all-spice powder, lemon juice, and salt.
  2. Coat the chicken pieces evenly in the marinade and let it sit for at least 1 hour.
  3. Grill the chicken over a hot grill or stovetop pan until golden brown. Brush with butter frequently to keep it tender and moist.
Preparing the Gravy:
  1. Heat oil in a pan and add ginger garlic paste. Sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add chopped onions and cook on high heat until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft, stirring occasionally. Continue frying until oil separates.
  4. Mix in cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and sugar. Stir well.
  5. Add the grilled chicken tikka and let it simmer for 5 minutes on low heat.
  6. Increase the heat and slowly pour in the milk while stirring continuously.
  7. Once the gravy thickens to the desired consistency, turn off the heat.

Serve hot with plain rice or naan for a delicious, restaurant-style meal!
