Cumin Biscuits (Zeera Biscuits)

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (190 g)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (113 g)
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar (30 g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds (slightly toasted)
  • 2–3 tbsp milk (as needed for binding)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Toast the cumin seeds lightly in a dry pan for 1-2 minutes until aromatic. Let them cool.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Make the Dough:

  1. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Sift in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the toasted cumin seeds and mix gently.
  4. Gradually add milk (1 tablespoon at a time) and knead into a soft dough. Do not over-knead.

3. Shape the Biscuits:

  • Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thickness on a floured surface.
  • Use a cookie cutter or knife to cut out shapes as desired.
  • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.

4. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

5. Serve:

  • Enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee! Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
