Traditional Chicken Karahi

A rich and flavorful Pakistani-style karahi, made with tender chicken, aromatic spices, and a thick tomato-based gravy.

Ingredients

  • Chicken (cut into pieces): 1 kg
  • Salt: to taste
  • Red chili powder: 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tablespoon
  • Garam masala: 1/2 tablespoon
  • Green chilies (chopped): 6-8
  • Onions (chopped): 4 medium
  • Tomatoes (chopped): 4 medium
  • Yogurt: 1 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tablespoon
  • Oil: 1/2 cup
  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped): 1/2 cup
  • Ginger (julienne-cut): for garnish

Directions

  1. In a karahi, add chicken, onions, tomatoes, yogurt, salt, red chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, and ginger garlic paste. Mix well.
  2. Cover with a lid and cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once the water from the tomatoes evaporates and oil separates, add 1 cup of water and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Turn off the flame and add chopped green chilies, fresh coriander leaves, and julienne-cut ginger.
  5. Cover the karahi for 10-15 minutes to let the flavors infuse.

Serve hot with naan and yogurt chutney for an authentic experience.
